“Free agent service” does not mean free delivery
Hipobuy's official Service & Fees notice says its shopping-agent service is free. It then breaks the customer's total into merchandise or item cost, international shipping and customs-related charges. Its definition of item cost includes the seller's product price and domestic shipping to the Hipobuy warehouse. Optional value-added services may be selected as needed. Those distinctions are more useful than a single headline price because they explain which amount is still unknown when you are looking at a product in a spreadsheet.
The USD amount on this independent directory is a dated catalog snapshot. Open the exact destination listing and record the current price and variant before ordering. Then check the agent order for any local delivery amount. The international parcel does not yet exist at this stage, so its final freight charge cannot be established by the product card. Currency conversion and available payment methods may also differ across the seller page, agent checkout and your card statement. Do not treat one displayed USD equivalent as an exchange-rate guarantee.
Separate five decisions on your cost sheet
Build a simple ledger before you top up a wallet or pay for a parcel. First list each product and its selected option. Second, add any domestic shipment from the seller to the warehouse. Third, note optional services requested for the item or packing. Fourth, use an international shipping estimate for the actual destination, weight and goods type. Fifth, make room for customs declaration, possible destination tax and any payment processing details shown in the live checkout. Some entries are known only after packing or importing, so label them as estimates instead of inventing a final total.

The official Service & Fees page describes a customs declaration charge generally around RMB 10 per parcel, depending on the shipping method. That published figure is not a promise that every route or future order will show the same amount. It also does not stand for every tax a destination authority could assess. Use the current route and local import rules for the parcel you are actually sending.
When an order needs another payment
Hipobuy's Order Status Display uses Outstanding Payment for an item order when actual product cost or domestic shipping is above the amount initially paid. A buyer should inspect the updated line items before settling it. Later, after stored items are submitted as an international parcel, Waiting for Confirmation can indicate that actual packed weight exceeded the estimate and an additional shipping payment is required. These are different stages and potentially different reasons for a difference. Keeping the item ledger and parcel ledger separate helps you see whether an amount was charged once, adjusted or still provisional.
The official Shipping Estimate asks for destination and weight in grams and lets you specify product type and dimensions. Compare available routes with the same inputs. Packaging and consolidation can change the real weight or volume. A seller's low product price therefore says little about the delivered cost of a heavy or bulky basket. Conversely, do not assume a small product automatically travels cheaply if the line has a minimum charge or content restrictions; check the chosen line in the live estimate.
What the wallet notice actually says
Hipobuy's official International Credit Card notice describes a practical top-up route for an overseas credit or debit card: sign in, open Wallet, choose Recharge, enter an amount, choose an available international-card method and proceed to Payment. It does not set out a universal card processing fee in that notice. We therefore cannot give a reliable flat percentage for every country or payment method. Review the checkout amount and card issuer terms at the time you act.
A wallet balance is a platform account balance, not proof that all your future expenses are paid. Before adding funds, make a realistic estimate for the product and domestic leg and keep enough flexibility for the later parcel quote. The order-status notice describes a canceled order refund being returned to the Hipobuy wallet and a completed return refund going to the Hipobuy account. That should stop an assumption that a seller cancellation necessarily reverses the same card transaction automatically. Check current withdrawal or balance rules directly in the account if those details matter to you.
Fees associated with a return are a different topic
The shopping-agent service being described as free does not make every after-sales action free. In its Returns and Refunds notice, Hipobuy lists an unconditional buyer-initiated return as potentially involving shipping both directions and a RMB 5 service fee. Seller fault is considered separately. Before requesting a return, explain the reason accurately and review the case-specific cost and seller eligibility. A purchase that looked cheap in a spreadsheet can become costly if it is the wrong variant and needs a domestic return.
Payment planning and return planning meet at the warehouse. Inspect the received item's photographs while a request may still be possible, then decide whether to keep it. Do not pay for international freight on an item whose selected version you have not confirmed. Once an international parcel moves forward, reversing a seller-side decision is generally more complex and may follow different rules.
A worksheet you can reuse
For each purchase, write the URL, seller price in the displayed currency, the USD snapshot you used for discovery, domestic shipping shown by the agent, optional services and amounts already paid. For each parcel, list included order IDs, estimated route and weight, final packed charge, any difference requested and the date of payment. Leave taxes in a separate column until they are known. The result may not be a neat number before dispatch, but it is an honest map of what is fixed and what can still change.
If you later compare two agents or read a buyer review, ask whether both figures include the same components. A screenshot showing only a cheap shirt is not evidence of a cheap delivered parcel. A person citing a wallet top-up amount without the final packed quote has not reported the entire cost. Prefer dated, itemized figures and route conditions over confident adjectives such as “no hidden fees.”
The strongest financial decision here is modest: know which cost belongs to which stage, and pay only after checking the corresponding live record. The official notices give a structure, but your seller, destination, package and payment method determine the actual checkout.
